Many manufacturers are building sedan bridge boats these days. The principal is simple enough: use V-drives to move the engines aft from under the salon to beneath the cockpit, thus lowering the salon sole and improving the boat’s profile while enlarging the living area. Of the many sedan bridge models on the market, the Mainship 40 certainly has one of the more attractive profiles. Hull construction is solid fiberglass and the deck; deckhouse and bridge are a single-piece mold. The step-down floorplan is arranged with two staterooms forward and a huge head with a stall shower. The wide salon is big for a 40-footer and the cherry woodwork, pastel fabrics and Corian countertops combine to create a stylish décor. The cockpit is fairly small and comes with molded seating and two big hatches in the sole for engine access. Topside, the flybridge has a centerline helm with wraparound seating. A cut out on the bridge coaming provides access, to the foredeck. Standard 454-cid gas engines will cruise at a sedate 16 knots and deliver about 26 knots top.
